A full-body trimmer, head by head

A multi-head trimmer is one motor handle with interchangeable cutting heads, and the reason the format works is not that it does eight jobs — it is that a single charged, maintained device in a drawer actually gets used, where three specialised ones in three states of charge do not.

Which heads do the work

Two of them carry the routine. The open-comb trimmer shortens hair to a set length and is what you reach for first, on any area, whenever the hair is too long for a blade. The foil head cuts closer without exposing an edge to the skin, which is what makes it the sensible choice for underarms and the bikini line. The narrow precision head matters if the main head is too wide to follow a curve; contour guards and massage attachments are convenience rather than function.

Using it without pulling

Trimmers pull for one reason: the hair was too long for the setting, so it is gripped between the teeth before the moving blade reaches it. Two passes — a longer comb first, then a shorter one — is faster in practice and noticeably more comfortable, and the difference grows the coarser and denser the hair is. Move the head slowly and let the blade do the cutting; pressing a comb hard into the skin bends the fixed blade and it never cuts evenly again.

Keeping it cutting

Rinse the head under a hot tap after every use and let it dry with the head off — clogged blades are the most common reason a trimmer suddenly seems blunt. A single drop of light oil across the teeth every few weeks keeps the two edges passing cleanly. Keep one head for the face and one for the body, and never share a head: moving bacteria into follicles that have just been cut is what turns a good shave into a crop of inflamed spots the next day.
